Easy, Family-Friendly Gardening with Vita!

Vita means Life.

And as a Holistic Nutritionist, every aspect of my work revolves around it. I enhance lives by tuning into the needs of humans, plants and animals, knowing that nothing in nature is a coincidence. Life interacts, communicates, and does a delicate dance to keep all in balance. We thrive when the plants, animals, water, and soil around us are doing well-we’re all connected in a big beautiful way.

As a Whole Family Nutritionist, I know the importance of teaching these foundations of life to young people. I inspire families to better their health. To do so, I use a well-rounded approach which incorporates much much more than going gluten free, reducing sugar or drinking more water. Improving the foundations of health is like building a foundation on a home. A solid foundation equals a sturdy structure, the same way a solid health foundation equals a stable body, mind and spirit. We can look at gardening as part of your family’s health foundation, the way it would have been back before convenience, supermarkets, GMO crops and cocktails of chemical additives and sprays. We can look at gardening this way because…

Gardening is more than growing food.

Gardening grows healthy minds, bodies and connected families. Even before nutritious crops are harvested, planting seeds in the soil exposes us to beneficial bacteria which are incredibly health supportive (especially during this time of ultra-sanitization). Growing food is a learning experience which allows for communication opportunities, patience and skillful observation. If these were the kinds of skills kids learned in school, we’d be a much healthier society. I am putting my all into growing my own food so that when I have kids of my own I will be able to pass down these skills through generations. I started learning how to grow food a few years back, but found extra motivation in the middle of a pandemic. I wasn’t about to leave my food security up to our industrialized food system. No way no how. If you’re a parent reading this and thinking- how can I teach my kids how to grow food when I don’t know the first thing about gardening?! You’re reading the right blog post. Whatever your skill level is, Vita can help you grow real nutrient-dense food to enjoy at your family table.

Vita is an indoor and outdoor lifestyle brand, dedicated to bringing joy, creativity and inspiration to other people’s lives through a wide range of diverse products.

What makes this company so fantastic and aligned with my mission? Vita encourages real people to grow real, nutrient-dense food!

Every action this company takes is with purpose, which is why we are growing together- quite literally! We have worked together this summer to grow fresh produce, which I will be donating within my community to grow food security. Giving back is a big part of Vita, with philanthropic efforts to give back to local and global communities. I was so excited to jump on board by choosing to donate this Summer’s bounty! Read all about Vita’s giving back projects here.

The garden bed in the above photo was set up in under one hour! Any family can do this. After the garden was set up, I had amazing helping hands from J! I mentor this young lady, who definitely out-shovelled me and is a natural when it comes to all things gardening. Maybe it’s just J but I’ve noticed kids have a knack for these sorts of projects. Perhaps this is because they are more connected to their roots than adults are? Maybe they crave the stillness of nature because of our screen-oriented society? It could be a combination of so many factors. If you want to get your kids involved in an exciting new growing project, stay tuned on my Instagram feed during the month of August for a super generous discount code from Vita! They have so many gorgeous models to choose from, there is an option for gardens and patios of all sizes.

Connecting to nature in the way of gardening and urban homesteading has taught me many lessons about life and living. When I am sinking my hands into the soil or collecting eggs from the chicken coop, I am humbled and also empowered. Empowered to create this natural shift in my own life to better the health of my family and teach these tools to others, and also humbled to be an observer of the innate wisdom of all living things.

Vita has been the perfect collaboration. They have demonstrated nothing short of excellence, expertise and experience in their craft. They bring creativity, playfulness and personality to their work, which shows in their artful, practical and elegant product line.
